Road Trip Part One

We've made it to California and are moved in to Mike and Doug's house for our stay in the desert.  Here's a look at how the trip has gone so far...

Day One - Saturday, June 2nd

The plan:  Get going around 11:00, get to San Antonio, drop off one car at Winston's Aunt Sandra's house, spend the afternoon at Sea World, spend the night back at Sandra's house and then drive to El Paso the next day.

What actually happened:  Got going a little bit after 12:00 after packing up the cars.  About half way to San Antonio Winston's back left tire was wobbling so we stopped to get it checked.  Of course we were in the middle of nowhere so a guy with no teeth let us know that the tire was separated and we were lucky we didn't have a blow-out on the highway.  They fixed us up while the boys and I found a park nearby for a picnic and a bit of playtime.  We got to Aunt Sandra's house closer to dinner time so we decided to put off Sea World until the next day and had a nice relaxing evening with family.

Day Two - Sunday, June 3rd

The next morning we got to Sea World late morning and enjoyed seeing Shamu, the sharks, and the dolphins.  Luke got to go on his first roller coaster and enjoyed playtime in the water area.  I enjoyed it too - it was pretty hot out!

Then we did something crazy.  After leaving Sea World around 2:00 we went ahead and drove all the way to El Paso.  I wouldn't recommend it but we made it to our hotel by 11:00, which was midnight to us.  It was a long day but the boys did great and it got us back on schedule. 

Day Three - Monday, June 4th

We got up and had a nice breakfast at our hotel that we were able to get using our reward points from Hilton - a nice bonus from living in a hotel for almost 2 months!  After passing through New Mexico we drove to Phoenix/Scottsdale and stayed in an amazing place.  Winston's buddy Kevin, a confirmed bachelor and Sports Director at the NBC station in town, said he would put us up in a hotel in lieu of staying with him.  Two little boys in a bachelor pad?  I get it!  In N' Out Burger for dinner and playtime in the pool was just what we needed.

Day Four - Tuesday, June 5th

Met my friend Julie and her kids at Starbucks for some great catching up after 15 years.  Then lunch with Kevin and we were on the road to California.  We got into town about 5:00 and are now looking forward to a nice week hanging out in the heat and seeing our friends.  After 5 years of humidity the desert heat feels great.  Going to be in the low 100s all week - perfect!

Some Tidbits From our Roadtrip

• From El Paso to Phoenix we saw 21 trains
• When Luke is looking at sleeper cabs he doesn't want music on
• Luke doesn't like Pearl Jam
• Luke now has a handle on rhyming words
• Driving across country is not fun when you have a fever of almost 102 - that was Monday
• If you give Sam toys in the car he will throw them
• Our two boys are good little travelers - Thank God!!!!
